Valentine's Day Flowers

Posted by Jason Gidas on 4th Feb 2020

The single busiest day of the year for florists is Valentine's Day. This year Valentine's Day falls on a Friday,

which is traditionally a good day for florists. Husbands and boyfriends can send flowers to work or home on February 14th, and then still plan a nice weekend getaway, or a evening out for dinner.  Red Roses of course are the most popular bouquet selected. There are many different meanings for rose colors, but Red means love, and Valentines Day is a day for lovers.  Red vases, red flowers, red balloons, red boxes of chocolates, red silk flowers...you name it, if it's red we've got you covered.  While roses are the biggest sellers on Valentines Day, lilies, tulips, gerbera daisies, and calla lilies are also top sellers.

Flower prices typically spike the week before the holiday and through the weekend. This is due to supply and demand. A florist can expect to pay 3-4x the normal wholesale rate for roses, and other flowers.  So while flowers are more expensive over the holidays, there are some tricks that can help you find a good deal. Any flowers in red, white, purple, and pink typically see the largest jump in price. If you are flexible on color, yellow and orange flowers can give you a bit more bang for your buck. Staying away from roses and including more cost effective varieties such as tulips and carnations can also help the price.

With the volume of Valentines Day flowers going out, we are unable to honor timed delivery requests for that day.

We try our best to accommodate business first, but due to the number of deliveries, a request of "by noon" is not an option for that day. If you would like to request timed window for flower delivery, we would suggest sending it prior to February 12th as overall delivery volume is less. We can do our best to honor the request for an extra fee, depending on the zip code that the delivery is going to.

So for your Valentines Day Flower order, trust sending through Pittsburgh's premier local florist, Gidas Flowers.

We have been family owned and operated for over 100 years in the same location and will take special care of your order.
