The Rise in Popularity of Succulents and Cactus
Posted by Jason Gidas on 2nd Apr 2019
It's April. Spring is in the air. Well, kinda sorta. It was 35 degrees yesterday and it snowed. But that's besides the point. April is a very popular month for flowers in Pittsburgh, but also a perfect time for plants. Tulips, Hyacinth, Daffodils, Azaleas, Hydrangeas, and Kalanchoe are just some of the plants that are available this time of year.
Succulents and Cactus Plants
But the most common question we get from anyone who walks into our Pittsburgh flower shop looking for a plant is, "do you have anything that I can't kill?" Many blooming plants, while beautiful, do require a certain amount of care, namely the right amount of water and sunlight. Let just say not everyone has the magic touch, or perfect environment for keeping plants alive. This has led to the rise in popularity of succulents and cactus. They check all the boxes: easy to care for, do well in most environments, don't need much water. This is a dream for college students who want to add a living plant to their dorm, but don't have the time to care for a traditional plant.
